Transitioning your child's diet can be overwhelming, especially when you don't have any help or advice.  See what other parents from all over have done to successfully transition their children into a vegan plant based diet.

"My children are five and seven and have been Vegan since birth. I think being open and honest with children about where meat and dairy comes from helps. It seems unnatural to them. Home baking / cooking with them helps with showing them that there is delicious food that is kind to the planet & animals as well as being delicious! :)"

"Make vegan chocolate chip cookies with your child. Let them mix and form the dough. Let them taste the SAFE TO EAT batter. Ask them how they taste when they're done baking. Then leave it at that. Let them get curious on their own. They will take baby steps, just like learning to walk."

"Definitely tell the truth about meat and dairy. And the get babies on as much fruit by 6 months if you can. The trick to getting my toddler to eat green is softening it with avocado/ or healthy homemade dressing."

"My kids have become way more adventurous now that we are all vegan than before. And yes, I'm very open about cruelty issues, as well as the many health benefits of being vegan."

"My girls transitioned to a plant based lifestyle when they were 8 & 3. We quit everything that wasn't vegan over night (I think this made it easier rather than trickling off). I knew a few things that they really liked like beans, rice, potatoes, carrots etc. So I began with gradually adding very tiny chopped new veggies in with them (the kids like things wrapped in tortillas & the smaller the cuts the better) I always use some sort of salsa or some sort of seasoning. Never plain! Every morning we do smoothies and that's a great way to hide in broccoli or kale or spinach;) the one thing I've learned is after they have eaten the meal we've prepared I say "so let's list what was in it;)" and I say carrots and she repeats, asparagus and she repeats and so on & so on. Then we all get happy and say WOW look at all the new veggies you like. It's worked really well."

"KIDS CAN BE VERY PICKY WHEN IT COMES TO TRANSITIONS. I'VE LEARNED THAT ONE OF THE BEST TACTICS IS INTRODUCING THEM TO FOODS THAT THEY ALREADY LIKE BUT IN VEGAN FORM, AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BEING VEGAN. ALSO GIVING THEM TASTY VEGAN MEALS AND NOT EVEN MENTION THAT IT’S VEGAN. WHEN THEY THINK ITS REGULAR FOOD THEY'LL BE QUICKER TO TRY IT BUT IF YOU JUST TELL THEM ITS SOMETHING THAT THEY'RE NOT USE TO EATING THEY TEND TO SHUT DOWN TO EVEN TRYING IT."

"My kids are 13 and 15. I transitioned them when I went vegan a year and a half ago. They like most of the stuff I make. I just had to veganize a lot of there favorite foods like Mac n cheese and pizza. They love pasta. Fruits and veggies. Veggie burgers. Field roast sausage is the best vegan sausage."
